Celebrating Christmas and the New Year with Joy at MMK
On November 28th, 2024, Bethel Church returned to Migrant Ministries Klang (MMK) to celebrate the joyous seasons of Christmas and the New Year with the refugee children. With over 600 students in attendance, the day was filled with festive cheer, heartfelt giving, and a shared reflection on the true meaning of Christmas.
Songs of Joy and Celebration
The celebration began with Christmas classics that everyone could sing along to, such as Jingle Bells and Santa Claus Is Coming to Town. The joy on the children’s faces as they clapped and sang along was infectious. But amidst the laughter and fun, we took time to reflect on the deeper meaning of the season.

Through the beautiful lyrics of C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S by Jim Reeves, we shared the story of Christ’s birth, reminding everyone that Christmas is about God’s ultimate gift to us—His Son. As we sang, We Are the Reason by Avalon, the message of Christ’s love and sacrifice came alive, reminding us that the spirit of Christmas is found in giving, just as God gave us the greatest gift of all.

The Spirit of Giving
Christmas is a season of giving, and this visit was a chance to embody that spirit. We shared small gifts with the children, seeing their eyes light up with gratitude and joy. It was a poignant reminder of John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

What touched us deeply was witnessing the children’s selflessness. Some set aside their gifts to share with siblings or parents at home, embodying a generosity that reminded us of Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Even in their struggles, these children displayed a heartwarming ability to think of others first.

Christmas and Hope for the New Year
As the year draws to a close, Christmas offers a time to reflect on hope, renewal, and God’s faithfulness. We prayed for the children, their families, and the MMK staff who work tirelessly to provide education and care in challenging circumstances. The message of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope,” resonated strongly as we looked toward a brighter year ahead.

Thank You to Our Volunteers
This celebration would not have been possible without the incredible team of volunteers who gave their time, energy, and love to make this day special. From organizing the event to engaging with the children and sharing the Christmas message, your efforts brought the spirit of the season to life. Your presence made the event brighter and more meaningful. As 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” Thank you for being faithful stewards of God’s love.

A Season of Reflection and Action
This Christmas and New Year celebration reminded us of the values that matter most: faith, hope, and love. The children at MMK continue to inspire us with their resilience, gratitude, and ability to find joy in the simplest of things. As we step into a new year, may we carry forward the lessons learned from this day—the joy of giving, the importance of hope, and the unshakable truth that we are deeply loved by God.
Isaiah 9:6 reminds us, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” May this message of peace and love guide us all in the coming year as we continue to serve and share His love with those around us.
Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
